The 2020s will be a green decade – The UK government has announced a commitment to catalysing the green revolution. With a reliance on coal for grid power on the British Isles coming to an end and this years, record-breaking 67 days without coal use in power stations –the longest since the industrial revolution – the winds of change have truly arrived both onshore and offshore.

Bureau’s operations team has recorded more renewables inspection enquiries in the last 12 months, than the previous three combined; with a marked uptick in the thirst for British project expertise. This changing scenery has presented opportunities for the business to further invest in their technical team to further mature the engineering offering.

Britain has become a heavyweight in offshore wind, with approximately a 10GW capacity. The UK’s target is for this to quadruple by 2030, bringing 60,000 jobs. The related supply-chains are growing, and the Bureau technical department has identified more complex project plans in recent months, with several projects taking mega project status. More traditional supply routes, especially in steel production are giving way to disruptor producers which require adaptive design methodologies and more solid approaches to quality than ever. Bureau is projecting a move to lesser treaded supply-chain paths and is implementing pilot inspection trials in new markets.
