Italian oil and gas contractor Saipem SpA (BIT:SPM) has won a roughly EUR-460-million (USD 553m) foundations job on the Courseulles-sur-Mer offshore wind project in Normandy, France.

Eoliennes Offshore du Calvados SAS (EODC), a joint venture between EDF Renewables and units of Canada’s Enbridge Inc (TSE:ENB) and Germany’s wpd AG, has awarded a conditional contract that calls for Saipem to design, fabricate and install 64 foundations to hold the turbines forming the 450-MW wind farm.

The contract will become effective when EODC makes a final investment decision on the project and gives the Italian company a notice to proceed. Saipem said it will fabricate the foundations, including steel monopiles and transition pieces, in Europe. Their installation will be carried out by the crane vessel Saipem 3000.

The wind park will be built in a zone that is located up to 16 km (9.94 miles) off the coast of the Calvados region.
