Balfour Beatty has returned to the top of the 12-month rolling contracts league after two big building contract wins during July in London.

The firm picked up a £121m project to build 100 flats and a 21-storey hotel on the Greenwich Peninsula for joint clients, Arora Hotels and Grove Developments.

Balfour also secured a £50m student accommodation project for Urbanest in central London in what turned out as a successful month for the building team.

The deals were enough to see Balfour oust BAM from pole place in the annualised league last month.

But the brace of big wins failed to secure top ranking in the monthly ratings for work won in July, which went to Skanksa after confirming it had picked up the 190m tall Scalpel Tower in the City of London.

Among the other big wins for July, Simons secured a £40m job to refurb/extend Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

VolkerWessels has a £50m logistics warehouse at Ilford as part of Crossrail and Costain took a £34m ECI deal with Highways Agency for work on A160/A180.
