Irish contractor Kentz has scooped another $571 million contract to work on Inpex’s giant Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Australia.

Irish contractor Kentz has scooped another $571 million contract to work on Inpex’s giant Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in Australia.

The London-listed player has been signed by engineering, procurement and construction coordinator JKC Australia LNG to carry out electrical and instrumentation construction at the onshore plant in Darwin.

The value of the deal is A$615 million (US$571 million) and lasts for 30 months, with site preparation work to begin in August. More than 1200 construction jobs will be created.

In February a 50/50 joint venture between Kentz and Australia’s UGL won a $640 million structural, mechanical and piping construction contract for Ichthys.

The contract scope includes the provision of services for site-wide installation for process trains, and additional pre-commissioning and commissioning expertise.

The contract will commence in August and is scheduled to be completed before the start-up of the second LNG train.

Ichthys LNG is operated by Japan’s Inpex on a 66.07% stake along with partners Total on 30% and LNG buyers Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Chubu Electric and Toho Gas splitting the remaining 3.93%.

Due on stream starting in 2016, the two-train project is designed for output of 8.4 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
