Norway’s Kongsberg Maritime has secured a front-end engineering and design contract for safety and automation systems on the Johan Sverdrup field project.

The contract, which also includes life-cycle simulation technology, covers deliveries of the equipment for the four platforms to be built under phase one of the giant scheme being developed by Statoil and its partners.

Kongsberg also has an option for similar work on the project where additional platforms are expected to be required in later phases.

No value was disclosed for the award, which gives another Norwegian player a share of the spoils on Johan Sverdrup after compatriot engineering contractor Aker Solutions landed the overall FEED for the facilities.

Domestic contractors are keen to get their noses in their trough at the project, where investments of as much as Nkr120 billion are targeted in the initial phase with tenders expected to hit the market within the next year.

The field is scheduled for start-up at the end of 2019.
