Indian coalbed methane company Great Eastern Energy has received a boost to its reserve numbers in the Raniganj Block.

Independent reserve engineers Advance Resources International has reported a 45% in proved reserves to 77.9 billion cubic feet.

Original gas-in-place increased 1.7% to 2.4 trillion cubic feet.

Great Eastern president Prashant Modi said the upgrade confirmed the potential of the block.

“Continued interest from major new industrial customers also reaffirms the attractive supply/demand balance for gas in India, which we are well positioned to deliver,” he said.

Great Eastern is leading the charge in the Indian CBM industry, tapping into vast reserves and strong demand in domestic markets.

Commercial gas production started from the block in 2007 and it now has a production capacity of about 1.3 million cubic feet per day.
