Latest well in prospective area of Pakistan turns up commercial gas find near producing field

Canadian explorer Jura Energy has confirmed a further commercial gas discovery at a prospective onshore play in Pakistan.

The Maru East-1 exploration well delivered the goods having tested at a flow rate of 3 million cubic feet per day on a 32/64-inch choke after being drilled in the Guddu block, partner Jura said in a statement.

The Calgary-based player holds a 10.66% working interest in the block that is operated by Pakistani state-run Oil & Gas Development Company.

The latest discovery is about two kilometres from existing pipeline infrastructure for the Reti-Maru fields, where commercial gas production began at the end of last year.

Jura recently confirmed a commercial gas condensate find with the Ayesha-1 probe drilled in the Badin IV South block farther south where it is now drilling the Haleema-1 well in partnership with operator Pakistan Petroleum.
