Aurora Energy Services is helping military service leavers transition into UK wind sector roles as the industry looks to address a growing skills gap.
The seven-week Military to Wind pilot is being delivered at Aurora’s Renewable Energy Training Centre in Inverness and is designed to make participants site-ready for onshore and offshore wind projects.
Two participants have already been offered jobs.
The course targets service leavers with Level 3 engineering backgrounds and includes Global Wind Organisation training, advanced rescue and safety certifications, ECITB-accredited competencies and turbine safety modules.
Andy Elrod, Director of Training at Aurora Energy Services, said service leavers bring “discipline, attention to detail, safety awareness, technical competence and the ability to perform in demanding environments”.
Successful participants are guaranteed interviews with Aurora and partner employers.
The programme is jointly funded by the Ministry of Defence and the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board, which helped shape the course standards.
Aurora said it is exploring partnerships and funding to support future cohorts, with the model potentially becoming a nationally recognised pathway into the wind sector.
